Handy Tips For Choosing the Right Necklace Length

See the illustration for a general guide to standard lengths

14″ or 36cm – Fits most like a choker

16″ or 40 cm – Falls perfectly around the base of the neck like a collar. On a petite frame it will hit the collarbone while for plus sizes it might feel more like a choker

18″ or 45cm – The standard length necklaces (usually 45cm) are the most commonly worn length and this length pendant or necklace will suit everyday wear and will likely be your go-to length.

This length will generally sit above the neckline for lower cut clothing or over the top of crew necked and other high necked garments.  This length will sit in a pleasing ‘V’ shape which will frame your face.

20″ or 50cm – The necklace will fall a few inches or around 5cm below the collarbone.  This length is perfect for low, plunging necklines or if you want to wear a turtleneck or poloneck shirt.

22″ or 55cm – Falls at or above a low neckline

24″ or 60cm – Falls below any neckline

30″ or 76cm – Called the ‘Opera Length’ and falls around the bottom of a woman’s ribcage.  Some people use this length to wrap around twice, making it look like a double choker style necklace.

36″ or 91cm – Called a rope necklace. This length typically falls below the waist on some women.  A rope necklace is ideal for taller women.
